Good Wine: Brown Brothers Dry Muscat 2005

Brown Brothers Dry Muscat 2005

Brown Brothers Dry Muscat 2005 is a stable in our family, there’s always some in the wine store. It’s a fruity wine which is dry but the fruit is so intense I can’t help describe it as having a slight sweetness. This makes it perfect for drinking on it’s own or for having with stronger food like Indian or Thai as well as the usual chicken and fish dishes. Apparently those in the know reckon this is one of the few wines which goes well with Salmon.

Interestingly I think we’re about to get a delivery of Dry Muscat 2006 as Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s have been selling the 2005 off cheap and Brown Brothers don’t mention the 2005 on their website.

Brown Brothers Dry Muscat 2005 is an excellent choice for summer drinking and I’d recommend you throw a bottle in the fridge to keep for those hot weekend afternoons and evenings. If you see any of the 2005 on the shelves pick it up. The 2006 will be zingy-er I reckon as it’s newer but if you see it, give it a try.

This is a good wine, well priced and perfect for glugging! Four stars.

People seemed to like it…

Well there’s been some reaction to my glowing review of Highfield Sauvignon Blanc 2006. My supplier Barrels and Bottles have posted on their blog about me and I received this really nice email from Highfield themselves after I’d pointed them towards my review:

Hi Tim,

That’s great. It’s always rewarding to hear when customers have enjoyed our wines. I have passed on your comments to Alistair Soper, Winemaker.

Have a super day.

Well, I’ll wait for the free case to turn up then…!

Wembley Wine

I was lucky enough to be at the Championship Play-off Final at Wembley yesterday thanks to my brother having Club seats there (thanks again bro!). I was a neutral (although I was sure West Brom were going to win!) but, due to being surrounded by Derby County fans, I couldn’t help cheer the Rams on.  Well, as it turned out Derby were the team to cheer for, well done!  Hope you hold on to Giles Barnes, he looks an excellent prospect.

Part of our package included food and a free bar. The food was quite good actually. After a fairly disappointing cold chicken Caesar salad there was a very nice steak sandwich with fillet steak cooked nice and pink in the middle. All this was followed by the ubiquitous chocolate based dessert which was decent enough. Unfortunately, I was driving later in the day so I always forego the booze even if it’s hours before I’ll be behind the wheel, the best way to do it I reckon.

Anyway, my brother sampled the complimentary white which was… okay. Better than you would have got 10 years ago but it wasn’t going to wine any gold awards. I snapped a quick photo for you with my trusty Nokia N80.

This time it’s 30% off Champagne or Sparkling Wine between 24th May and 18th June. Remember that as I’ve mentioned before, this may not be as good a deal as it initially seems but I’m sure there are some bargains to be had.
